Michelangelo's Secret Room, Medici Chapels - an extremely rare and limited chance to visit this newly unveiled space. Long hidden from the public, we can now offer a chance to appreciate the creative process and exploratory sketches of Michelangelo. This tiny and long forgotten chamber - La Stanza Segreta di Michelangelo - has now been opened to the public for a limited period.

Availability is extremely limited, with only 100 visitors per week, strict time-slots and a maximum of 2 visitors per slot. We'll try to reflect available dates in the calendar, but we can't guarantee that slots will be available until we have confirmed an order.

Maximum of one time-slot per order: If you are attempting to book for more than 2 people, please place separate orders with different time-slots for each order.

Maximum of two visitors per time-slot: Only 2 visitors are allowed at a given time so availability is very hard to guarantee. Ideally select 'Flexible on timing' below. While we cannot guarantee that all slots will be available, this will give you a better chance of visiting the Secret Room.

The location is down a narrow staircase and is not accessible to visitors with disabilities or children under 10.

Overview

This hidden room, only brought to light during excavations in 1975 and painstakingly restored, served as a refuge for Michelangelo when he faced a death sentence from Pope Clement for his involvement in the short-lived Republican government. Although the sentence was swiftly revoked, allowing him to resume his work in Florence, this compact space unveils an array of sketches and plans for future masterpieces. Executed in charcoal and chalk, the works often overlap, and provide a rare insight into the artist's evolving techniques.

This ticket also includes your entrance to the Medici Chapels.

    This experience was such a treat! I knew about it and had been trying for months to get tickets on my own and could not, even with the help of the concierge at our 5-star hotel. I could not believe tickitaly had them! It was perfect! A must-do in Florence!
