A painting by Dutch master Jan van Huysum, stolen by a German soldier in 1944, is on its way back to Florence as a result of a video posted at the beginning of the year by the Director of the Uffizi Gallery.
The piece, a still life of a vase of flowers, was painted in the first half of the 18th century, and acquired by Grand Duke Leopold in 1824. In the video below, the Director of the Uffizi is shown hanging a black and white copy of the piece in January 2019, labelled ‘Stolen’ in Italian, German and English. Now, six months or so later, the piece is scheduled to return to the city and its rightful place in the Pitti Palace.
