The Leaning Tower of Pisa Leaning Less Each Year
The year 1995 was crisis year, but radical underpinning and support work saw the Pisa Campanile straightened by an incredible 41 centimetres in the years between 1993 and 2001.
Recent research shows that the tower continues to stabilise, attaining another 4 centimetres of vertical in the subsequent 17 years. Its condition is now said to ensure a secure future for the next two centuries, with some voices already murmuring that enough is enough and that the leaning tower should not be further straightened!
