Il giovane Tintoretto
Gallerie dell’Accademia, Venice
7th September 2018 – 6th January 2019
There are to be two exhibitions in Venice to mark the 500th anniversary of the birth of Tintoretto – Jacopo Robusti detto Tintoretto (1519 – 1594) – and this one, at the Venice Academy, is entitled ‘Il Giovane Tintoretto’ – The Young Tintoretto.
Via a collection of around 20 paintings it will be possible to trace the evolution of the Renaissance Master over the first 10 years of his career, the way he managed to express in an experimental and original way the landscapes and atmospheres of Venice, the culture of the times.
The pieces, from national and international collections, frame the early years of Tintoretto in the context of the artistic world of the times, one populated by Titian, Sansovino, Michelangelo, Vasari and other giants. The exhibition finishes with his masterpiece, the ‘Miracle of the slave’, a work of extraordinary maturity given his only 30 years at time of painting.
