Did you know that the pair of columns overlooking St Mark’s Square – Piazza San Marco – in Venice should, legend has it, actually be triplets?
It’s said that the third column fell/was pulled down in 1172 and, this October, work begins to try and locate it. The deep sub-surface scanning and mapping will take place at night in order to avoid daytime disruption, and is scheduled to last at least two years.
