‘A cavallo del tempo. L’arte di cavalcare dall’Antichità al Medioevo‘
Boboli Gardens
26th June – 14th October 2018
Opening today, an exhibition tracing the strong historical ties between man and horse, here beginning with early cave paintings and arcing through to medieval times.
Housed in the large lemonery – limonaia – of the Boboli Gardens at the Pitti Palace, Florence, over 100 pieces celebrate these unique relationships, forged in daily life, legend, sport, military activities and celebrations from ritual to funeral.
The exhibition brings together pieces from archaeological museums both domestic and international, and strikingly impressive key exhibits include an enormous Roman marble horse, and an ancient Greek vase depicting Athena with Trojan Horse.
