Exhibition – Leopoldo de’ Medici, Principe dei Collezionisti
7th November 2017 – 28th January 2018
As can be seen in the video below, Leopoldo (son of Cosimo de’ Medici) was an eclectic collector, a lifelong collector who, notwithstanding becoming a Cardinal, also cherished pieces of a most-definitely non Catholic nature, some of them exaggeratedly bizarre.
The exhibition is on honour of his 400th anniversary and features a dazzling range of paintings (many portraits), sculpture, decoration, jewelry, printed works, scientific instruments, and religious artefacts. The title of the exhibition calls Leopoldo the ‘Prince of Collectors’ – the scope and diversity of this exhibition certainly supports this accolade.
