Rome, Castel Sant’Angelo and Palazzo Venezia
Exhibition – ‘Labirinti del cuore. Giorgione e le stagioni del sentimento tra Venezia e Roma’
Until 17th September 2017
Translating to ‘Labyrinth of the heart. Giorgione and the seasons of feeling between Venice and Rome (in the 16th century)’, this exhibition takes place both in the Castel Sant’Angelo and the Museo Nazionale, Piazza Venezia.
The exhibition centres on one of Giorgone’s masterpieces, ‘Two friends’, a work of double portraiture that marked a turning point in early 16th century art. The intimate style represented a never-before seen emphasis on emotion, love, and state of mind, in a period when hedonistic, patrician youth was being left behind by the impending (radical) changes that would be forced upon the Venetian Republic.
