Pompeii Excavations until 27th November 2017
Exhibition ‘Pompeii & the Greeks’
This exhibition (included in ticket price) looks at the somewhat dual identity of Pompeii, a meeting point of cultures due to frequent contact with Mediterranean Greece.
The influence on decorative styles and architecture, on craftsmen and artisans, and the directly imported luxury objects, all are on display here, right down to examples of Greek graffiti on the city walls.
Over 600 finds range from pottery to weapons, from silverware and decorative pieces to sculpture, and the focus, though ancient, brings a parallel with modern times, the positive influences that population migration and culture clash can have on the fabric of society.
Below is a long video from the official press opening event for this exhibition – there is a great deal of (Italian) conversation but it does give you a taste of what to expect.
