Ardengo Soffici (1879 – 1964) was a writer, critic and artist who played an enormous role in the Italian and larger European art scene of the time. This exhibition takes its title – ‘Discoveries and Massacres’ from his collected writings, works of inestimable importance to the renewal of Italian art, as were many exhibitions he organised, notably the first Italian exhibition on Impressionism, Florence, 1910.
Examples of his critical writings will be shown alongside works by Cézanne, Renoir, Picasso, Degas, De Chirico and others.
