‘Carlo Dolci, Firenze 1616 – 1687’
Palatine Gallery, Pitti Palace, Florence
30th June – 15th November
An exhibition dedicated to the genius of Carlo Dolci, the most important Florentine painter of the 17th Century. The exhibition brings together pieces from national and international collections, both private and public, pieces that testify to the painter’s ‘Magic Realism’.
Working by and large for the Medici Grand Dukes, Dolci’s output was almost exclusively on sacred themes and, thanks to contemporary documentation, this exhibition is almost an anthology, able to follow the various phases of his artistic output. Once more, as with many of the Florence ‘Un Anno d’Arte’ exhibitions, there will also be shown various works by contemporaries of the artist, all the better to understand the times and context.
