‘I Giganti Dell’Avanguardia: Miró, Mondrian, Calder e le Collezioni Guggenheim’
Vercelli, Arca, 5 Piazza del Municipio
March 3rd – June 10th, 2012
Vercelli, ‘City of art’, is located roughly equidistant between Turin and Milan, and ‘Arca’, the principal exhibition centre, has previously been home to collections of works from the Guggenheim collection(s).
To quote directly from the Guggenheim information:
The fifth exhibition organized by the Peggy Guggenheim Collection and the Regione Piemonte for Vercelli focuses on the work of three founding fathers of the historic avant-garde of the last century: Joan Miró, a founder of Surrealism; Alexander Calder, close friend of Miró and champion of abstraction; and Piet Mondrian, founding member of the De Stijl movement, and among the protagonists and intellectual leaders of abstraction in the first half of the twentieth century. Works will also be loaned by the Gemeentemuseum, the Hague, and the Calder Foundation, New York.
