Rome, Fiumicino, Leonardo da Vinci Airport
‘Il Genio di Leonardo’
12th October 2011 – 30th April 2012
It’s to be hoped that you needn’t spend too long at the airport, but should you find time on your hands then the exhibition ‘The Genius Of Leonardo’ at Rome’s Fiumicino airport looks to be time well spent.
Appropriately, given the location, there is a strong aeronautical core:
The Exhibition presents for the first time in an international airport all 21 full-size flight machines and aeronautical instruments, made of wood, metal and cloth, derived from Leonardo’s original sketches and drawings contained in the various Codes and accompanied by explanatory data sheets, in 6 languages, with copy of Leonardo’s drawing, copies of the Codes, illustrations and legends, touch-screens.
For the first time in the world the 12-m high machine called “Vertical Ornithopter” which represents the Leonardesque precursor of the modern helicopter will be exhibited.
