‘Artemisia Gentileschi, Storia di una Passione’
Milan, Palazzo Reale
22nd September 2011 – 29th January 2012
Artemisia Gentileschi was the first woman to be made a member of the Accademia di Arte del Disegno in Florence (she was the daughter of Tuscan painter Orazio Gentileschi and was, as was her father, much influenced by Caravaggio); an early Italian Baroque painter, she is held to be one of the finest of her generation.
This major exhibition brings together more than 40 important works and chronologically explores the major periods of her career:
- The early Roman years, surrounded by the works of her father and his contemporaries.
- The Florence years.
- Her twenties in Rome, the return to Rome
- The Naples years
