We’ve had a page on the main site for some years now – ‘About the ‘new’ Uffizi Gallery, Florence – Il Progetto dei nuovi Uffizi‘ – that hasn’t been updated for some time. Not laziness, just lack of information, indeed the official site for the project [link] remains unchanged these past few years. [link: Uffizi ticket booking]
Work goes on, however, and this Summer may see at least some of the new Uffizi rooms open for the first time. This article (Italian only) is actually about the hidden gallery – Uffizi number 2 as the article calls it – the vast (over 2,500 works) store of art that is not on show to the public, the ‘secret rooms’ of the Uffizi Gallery. However, it would seem that a hundred or so works are due to be taken from their dark, temperature controlled homes and placed on show to the public in 8 rooms of the ‘new’ Uffizi this June.
