‘L’ultimo Michelangelo. Disegni e rime attorno alla Pietà Rondanini.’
Milan, Castello Sforzesco (Museo d’Arte Antica)
24th March – 19th June 2011, closed Mondays
As the ‘ultimo’ of the exhibiton title makes plain, this exhibition focuses on Michelangelo’s last years, with designs and writings (the ‘rime’ of the title meaning rhyme, poetry) from the last ten years of his life, all framed around his statue ‘Pietà Rondanini’.
This show is the second in a series taking place at Milan’s Castello Sforza (the first, running until May, we covered here). The works, over 50 of them, come from the collections of museums around the world, and feature important sketches and studies of well known compositions.
