Alberto Savinio – ‘La Commedia dell’Arte’
Milan, Palazzo Reale, 25th February – 12th June 2011
Younger brother of Giorgio De Chirico, Alberto Savinio started painting relatively late in life, having already excelled in the fields of theatre, music and literature. He was friends with, amongst others, Apollinaire, Cocteau, Breton and Picasso. Exposed to the metaphysical world of his brother’s works, he moved to Italy in 1915 and began developing his own form of surrealism, working exclusively on his paintings between 1943 and 1950.
The exhibition features over a hundred of his pieces, divided and displayed according to theme.
