Florence, Palazzo Strozzi, 17th September 2011 – 22nd January 2012
Having packed up the ‘Angry Young Men‘ exhibition and taken off most of August to escape the heat, the staff of the Palazzo Strozzi mount a new exhibition in September 2011.
‘Il denaro e la bellezza. I banchieri, Botticelli e il rogo delle vanità ’ will feature an impressive range of works from a roll call of Renaissance masters – Botticelli, Filippo Lippi, Beato Angelico, Paolo Uccello, Donatello, Antonio del Pollaiolo, Domenico Veneziano and Lorenzo di Credi – grouped to demonstrate how modern banking evolved hand-in-purse with the Renaissance.
The exhibition also explores the links between that unique interweave of high finance, economy and art, and the religious and political upheavals of the time.
