Book tickets for the 2013 Canaletto 'Gero Qua' exhibition in Venice

A very, very unusual exhibition this. Unusual in that it is only running for 50 days. Unusual in that it is open 24 hours a day. Unusual in that no more than 8 people will be admitted at any time. But most unusual in that it features just one work of art - Canaletto's L'entrata nel Canal Grande e la Basilica della Salute' - and that said work is being exhibited in the self same place it was created - the Abbazia San Gregorio in Venice.

Running from the 10th of November until the 27th of December 2013, this unique event is being trailed as 'More than an exhibition, an emotional journey. To be savoured alone, by night and by day'.
After 270 years the painting returns to where it was conceived and executed, the loggia overlooking Venice's Grand Canal, the very spot where Canaletto captured all he saw, using his camera obscura to trace and define in incredible detail the lines of the palaces and architectural wonders before him.

Again, this is an intimate and privileged experience - remember your party will never contain more than 8 people. You'll begin this journey in the majestic medieval Abbey of San Gregorio before leading on to the corner room overlooking the Basilica della Salute, the Grand Canal and the St Marks lagoon. It's here where you'll savour the masterpiece, in a room closed to the public for many years, a room containing the masterpiece and the view the painting recreated.
Just you, perhaps a few friends, a Canaletto, and Venice.
