‘La Nuova Frontiera. Storia e cultura dei nativi d’America dalle collezioni del Gilcrease Museum’
Palazzo Pitti – Andito degli Angiolini – Galleria del Costume
3rd July – 9th December 2012 – extended until 9th January 2013
‘The New Frontier. The history and culture of the native American from the Gilcrease Museum, USA’ is an exhibition on the 500th anniversary of the death of Amerigo Vespucci, one of the disoverers of America and the man who gave it its name.
The exhibition is dedicated to the civilisation of the indigenous North American people and their lands, which, from the 16th to the 19th centuries, were colonised by the Europeans on their relentless push to the Wild West.
A varied collection of artefacts from the prestigious museum in Tulsa, Oklahoma are testimony to the incredibly rich culture of the native Americans.
